Premio Nacional de la Plata Hugo Salinas Price (Hugo Salinas Price National Silver Awards). Every two years we pay homage to Mr. Hugo Salinas Price through the Premio Nacional de la Plata Hugo Salinas Price, a pageant designed to reward and acknowledge the finest in Mexican silver craftwork. Since 2002, Fomento Cultural Grupo Salinas joined efforts with the Social Development Secretariat (Secretara de Desarrollo Social (SEDESOL)), the National Foundation for the Promotion of Craftwork (Fondo Nacional para el Fomento de las Artesanas (FONART)) and since de 2006, with the Popular Art Museum (Museo de Arte Popular (MAP)), to consolidate the scope of this pageant on a national level and provide better incentives for silver craftsmen in Mexico.
Mural de la Plata (Silver Mural). As an initiative by Ricardo Salinas Pliego and his wife, Mara Laura Medina de Salinas, this Silver Mural was created. They came up with the original idea and proposed the creation of a silver mural based on a Mexican subject. This is how they discovered a prehispanic stamp that served as the origin of the mural that today hosts visitors in the lobby of the Grupo Salinas headquarters. A product of wit and creativity of Mexican craftsmen, this is a legal Mexican .970 silver piece, named Vida and Movimiento (Life and Movement) and that according to its maker, known craftsman Ezequiel Tapia, is the first and only silver piece of its size.
