Kybernus: Leadership matters
Today is the last day for election campaigning, but beyond the flood of advertising spots that people have suffered through, and given a complex environment such as the one we face –characterized by economic crisis, insecurity, lack of trust by citizens toward the authorities, etc.- the question of social and political leadership has become crucial. But why is it so important? Lets take a look.
Leadership has a great influence on the transformation of reality, since it strengthens society’s capacity to improve its situation.
Members of every social group, whether businesspeople, university students, or a local community, require certain key factors in order to progress. Among such elements are political and economic freedom, equal opportunities, an environment conducive to creating businesses, the rule of law, information and transparency in the public administration, the elimination of corruption, rules and incentives to ensure competition and protect intellectual property, and quality public services.
Creating these conditions requires political and social leadership that is honest, capable and inspires confidence. Otherwise, the result is apathy, rejection, and the alienation of the population, especially youth. This is precisely what has occurred with the political leadership in many parts of the world, particularly in Mexico where its poor reputation is unparalleled.
I think the gap between citizens and politics has several causes, including actions based on opportunism, improvisation and a short-term vision, lack of planning as well as the absence of values ??and effective results in government functioning.
We should not forget the lack of commitment and accountability of those in office, and the pursuit of personal and group benefit on the part of the leaders of political parties.
But today more than ever, we need effective leadership that will enable us to resolve these serious problems. If leaders help to build a shared vision and advance in the transformation of the future, then leadership training is a decisive contribution to the development of our country.
For all these reasons, convinced of our responsibility in creating shared social values, in Grupo Salinas we have created the Kybernus program. This is our seed to help resolve Mexico’s urgent need for new political and social leadership.
Kybernus seeks to organize and promote a culture of leadership based on socially desirable values. Its aim is to detect, train, and promote the future leaders of Mexico, with a vision that starts at the local level, since community life is the real crucible of leadership.
The program is based on cooperation between Grupo Salinas and public, private, and civil society organizations that share the idea that Mexico needs prepared and committed leaders of integrity, able to motivate and bring out the best in others.
The importance of this issue for Mexico is undeniable, especially with young people who soon will lead the country’s development. I have had the opportunity and honor to directly present this project in different universities and exchange ideas with students.
