Hear to listen to the music of life
On May 24 we held our 68th Movimiento Azteca fundraising campaign, dedicated to the Fundación Auditiva Starkey, a prestigious institution that for more than 30 years has been donating hearing aids worldwide, and for over 15 years has been operating in Mexico. The foundation focuses on children from low-income families.
Thanks to Fundación Azteca, our viewers, and institutions that contributed to this Movimiento Azteca campaign, we collected 7,900,000 pesos, exceeding our initial goal of raising 5,000,000 pesos. As a result, the Fundación Starkey will donate 8,000 high-quality hearing aids to 4,000 children with hearing problems from low-income families.
Since its inception 15 years ago, Fundación Azteca has launched many initiatives to address health and youth, always based on the conviction of the need to provide children with better opportunities in life.
According to the World Health Organization, about 10 million Mexicans suffer some degree of hearing impairment, with children and the elderly most affected. Between 2,000 and 4,000 children are born congenitally deaf every year, and the probability of some hearing deficiency rises to 62% for children born in intensive or intermediate care units.
Without proper care, the deaf lose development opportunities and gradually slip behind in education and have difficulty finding employment.
This video clip chronicles the moment when a deaf child first hears the sound of a flute played by a young girl from our Esperanza Azteca orchestra. Thank you very much for contributing to this noble cause.
